PHOENIX -- A man on a motorcycle was killed Tuesday morning after he was involved in a wreck with a Valley Metro van driven by a Maricopa County Sheriff's Office employee.

It happened shortly before 6:30 a.m. on 35th Avenue north of Lower Buckeye Road in Phoenix. According to Officer Luis Samudio of the Phoenix Police Department, the van was taking four MCSO employees to work.

Police said the motorcycle was northbound on 35th Avenue and the van was southbound, about to make a left turn into the work complex.

The motorcycle hit the van.

The 25-year-old motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

It's not yet clear if any charges will be filed in connection with the wreck. The investigation is ongoing. That area of 35th Avenue was expected to remain closed for several hours.

Nobody in the van was injured.

The motorcyclist's name has not been released.
