CHANDLER -- A suspect was arrested Monday night after a woman was found lying in a pool of blood on the floor of a vacant Chandler home earlier in the day.
A man called Chandler police at approximately 6:45 a.m. Monday and said he had received several phone calls at his home from an unknown male demanding money or his mother, Michelle Morales, would be harmed.
Chandler police Detective David Ramer said neighbors near California Street and Frye Road had called the landlord of a vacant residence to report a commotion coming from inside the home between 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m.
The landlord went to the house and found a dead woman on the floor with blood on and around her. The body was later identified as Morales, 41.
Ramer said information obtained by police identified Jaime Coronado, 31, of Chandler, as the suspect in the homicide.
The United States Marshall Service Task Force arrested Coronado near Country Club Drive and U.S. 60 in Mesa at approximately 10 p.m. Monday.
Ramer said physical evidence found on Coronado connected him to the homicide scene. He was booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail on a charge of first-degree murder.
