PHOENIX – The first of thousands of state residents will lose their extended unemployment benefits on Sunday.

An estimated one million Americans, including 82,000 Arizonans, will lose those benefits because a bill to extend them has not passed the United States Senate.

Votes on the issue are scheduled for Tuesday. Unless the bill is signed next week and the payments are made retroactive, the payments will start to phase out almost immediately.
