No new Tombstone crosswalkPosted: Updated:
TOMBSTONE — A stretch of road in Tombstone where two tourists died last fall will not be getting a crosswalk.
After 81-year-old Arthur Wilkinson and his 75-year-old wife Winifred were killed crossing Fremont Street. The mayor asked for a safety study. The state is now recommending better lighting and parking, plus a lower speed limit, but no crosswalks.
Tombstone Mayor Dustin Escapule is not content with the recommendations, "there's nothing that's going to make anybody feel any better about the fact that we had two visitors from England get killed on the streets of Tombstone, but i will continue to push for this until we have an absolute safe environment."
Mayor Dustin Escapule plans to ask for temporary crosswalks for special events.
