TEMPE -- Police say Olympic gold medals belonging to a Tempe woman were stolen Wednesday during a burglary.

Police say someone forced entry into the home of former Olympic swimmer Melissa Belote-Ripley sometime between 10:15 a.m. and 4:00 p.m..

The home is located in the area of McClintock Drive and Southern Avenue

The list of stolen items include three Olympic Gold Medals from the 1972 games in Munich, Germany, for swimming in the 100 meter backstroke, 200 meter backstroke, and the 4 x 100 meter relay.

All three medals were engraved on each side with the name Melissa Belote.

The family says the medals are irreplaceable and would like them returned.
