YUMA – Ten sex offenders wanted by authorities have been taken into custody during a round-up by sheriff’s deputies.

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office served 10 search warrants on Monday evening and throughout Tuesday at the homes of registered sex offenders. The Yuma Police Department, U.S. Border Patrol, U.S. Marshal, and Yuma County Adult Probation Department also assisted in serving the warrants.

The execution of the search warrants was the culmination of a month-long investigation into alleged violations by the sex offenders based on the use of social networking websites. They are required to provide any online user names or email addresses and may be arrested if they fail to do so.

The investigation was conducted with the help of a program called OffenderWatch, which allows the public to search for and locate sex offenders in their town. This program is available on the YCSO website.

-Lewis Thompson
-Ruben Olaiz
