Traveler assaults man, screams 'tase me' to security at Sky HarborPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- An apparently drunk Canadian was arrested after he assaulted a man and got into a scuffle with personnel at Sky Harbor International Airport before being subdued by police.
Shortly before 9 p.m. on Feb. 15, Phoenix Police Airport Bureau officers responded to gate A4 in Terminal 4 in reference to a disorderly traveler.
Officers learned that for unknown reasons, Stephen Walter Tait, 49, had become angry while in the gate area and assaulted a 32-year-old man. The victim was not injured.
According to Phoenix police Detective James Holmes, Tait also used vulgarities and made derogatory comments to travelers and airport personnel before being subdued by police. The officer who took Tait into custody sustained a broken ankle.
A passenger at the airport recorded the incident and posted the video online. The video shows the man yelling at security and saying, "Why don't you tase me?"
Officers determined Tait may have been consuming alcohol prior to the incident, but it is unknown where he consumed it. Holmes said it appears Tait was an arriving passenger at Sky Harbor.
Tait was booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail for assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He was released on Feb. 17.
