APACHE JUNCTION -- The Apache Junction High School teacher arrested for allegedly having sexual conduct with a 16-year-old student was in a local band with several teenagers.

Johnathan Krieger, 47, is the lead singer of Tiger Eyes, a band made up of both current and former students. The band specializes in what's described as "Chinese traditional hard-core rap."

The band was originally formed by a male student. According to the group's Facebook page, the teen approached the science and German teacher. Krieger reportedly sang in another band in the 1980s.

Krieger agreed to sing. Not long after that, a female student joined Tiger Eyes as a second lead singer.

According to a blog on Krieger's MySpace page, the teacher said the band has given him the opportunity to learn about his students and grow close to them. He said the students makes him look forward to going to work and that he misses them when he doesn't see them.

Krieger, who has also gone by the names John Snell and Johnathan Raye, also taught at Apache Trail High School, also in Apache Junction, and Sequoia Charter School in Mesa.

Krieger, who was arrested by Pinal County deputies Friday morning, faces eight counts of sexual conduct with a minor. Bond has been set st $250,000. He's being held at the Pinal County Adult Detention facility in Florence.
