Phoenix man formally charged in beating death of elderly motherPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX – A Phoenix man has been indicted in the beating death of his elderly mother.
County Attorney Andrew Thomas tells 3TV a grand jury indicted Robert Troutt, 55, for the death of his mother, 85-year-old Eva Fitzgerald.
Phoenix police filed a probable cause statement that says Fitzgerald called 911 on January 18. Officers responded to the call and found Fitzgerald, who was rushed to the hospital and later died from her injuries.
Thomas says, “Alleged physical abuse of senior citizens cannot be tolerated, especially when it results in homicide. We will seek justice for Eva Fitzgerald.”
Troutt was arrested by Phoenix police and indicted on February 12 on charges of second-degree murder, aggravated assault, possession or use of dangerous drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.
