State horse bill galloping through the LegislaturePosted: Updated:
PHOENIX (AP) -- There's a state bird, a state flower even an official neckwear, the bolo tie. So how about a state horse?
A bill is galloping through the Legislature that would name the Spanish Colonial breed the State Horse of Arizona.
The bill's sponsor, Rep. Pat Fleming of Sierra Vista, said it would honor a breed that dates all the way back to when Coronado was exploring the Southwest.
The bill gained speed Tuesday by passing the House Government Committee in a runaway vote.
