SURPRISE -- A two-vehicle collision in Surprise cut power to a neighborhood and closed an intersection Tuesday afternoon.

According to Sgt. Mark Ortega with the Surprise Police Department, the collision caused one of the vehicles to hit a utility box at the intersection of Bell and Dysart roads at approximately 12:41 p.m.

Ortega said the elderly female driver was temporarily trapped in her vehicle until power could be cut off.

Each vehicle was only occupied by its driver and both women were transported to a local hospital for their injuries.

Power to the area was restored and the intersection reopened.

The collision is under investigation.
