Ira H. Hayes American Legion Post 84 on the Gila River Indian Community in Sacaton, AZ, is again commemorating the Iwo Jima Flag Raising event on February 19 and 20, 2010.
The event specifically honors all who took part on the gruesome assault on Iwo Jima. All veterans and military personnel are invited as well as families and friends. The parade, ceremony, gourd dance and powwow honors all those who have served this Country.
Friday dinner scheduled at 6:00 p.m. - Boys/Girls Club of East Valley Gila River Branch in Sacaton. PLEASE NOTE - dinner seating is limited due to fire code regulations. Larger groups are asked to be selective as to who in their group will attend and still allow representation.
Saturday parade with a military flyover begins at 9:00 a.m. followed by ceremonial events at Memorial Park which include massing of colors, flag raising, Remembrance Table service, memorial plaque dedication and wreath laying.
Staging @ 7:30 a.m. on Skill Center/Seed Farm Roads ENTER ONLY FROM SEED FARM ROAD. Casa Blanca Road will be closed at Bluebird Road to Ocotillo Drive to all traffic traveling east and west. Therefore, no vehicles, drop-offs, etc. will be allowed to enter from NORTH END of Skill Center Road.
