When the mother, who was found unconscious in the driver's seat, was rushed to the hospital, doctors discovered a bullet lodged in her brain. The 41-year-old had been shot in the back of the head.
Hockersmith was found after calling family members, said Sgt. Trent Crump of the Phoenix Police Department. Investigators traced the number, tracking him to the area of Second and Garfield streets.
It's not yet known what led up to the shooting or what charges Hockersmith could face.
