PHOENIX -- Law enforcement officials thought they were busting a drop house, but it turned out to be a "stash house" for drugs.

On Wednesday, the Phoenix Police Department received a tip regarding a possible drop house for illegal immigrants near 79th and Campbell avenues.

Detectives from the Illegal Immigration Prevention Apprehension Co-op Team (IIMPACT) placed the house under surveillance and observed two people leave the home in an SUV. Phoenix police officers stopped the vehicle and took the occupants into custody.

As IIMPACT detectives entered the property, two suspects fled out the back of the home but were apprehended.

Officers noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the house and found 18 large bundles of marijuana in a back closet. Several other bales were being cut up for packaging and sale.

A search warrant was served and officers recovered approximately 400 pounds of marijuana, a fully loaded SKS assault rifle and two semi-automatic handguns.

Six suspects were arrested and booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail on charges of possession of marijuana for sale and misconduct involving weapons.
