SCOTTSDALE -- A 58-year-old woman is in the hospital after a pickup truck hit her while she was crossing the street early Thursday morning.

It happened shortly before 7 a.m., when it was still dark outside. Police said the woman was crossing the Scottsdale Road in the middle of the block, which means she was not in the crosswalk when the red pickup hit her just south of Thunderbird Road.

The pickup was heading south in the curb lane at the time.

The woman reportedly was in serious condition when she was taken to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Hospital. Police said her injuries are life-threatening.

The driver of the pickup that hit her did stop. According to Officer Dave Pubins of the Scottsdale Police Department, neither alcohol nor speed seem to be factors in the wreck.
