Marana residents talking trash at landfill meetingPosted: Updated:
MARANA, Ariz. (AP) -- Marana residents are trash talking. They are voicing their opposition to a proposed landfill in their backyard.
Residents met with a landfill developer Tuesday night and listed several concerns for a new landfill ranging from the smell to their health.
Developer DKL Holdings of Tucson tried to ease fears saying the smell would be controlled and water from the dump would be monitored.
Marana wants to put in a new landfill on Avra Valley Road before Pima County closes the Ina landfill permanently in July.
The Sahuarita (sow-rah-REE'-tuh) landfill will close temporarily for at least one year, at about the same time. The Tangerine landfill will remain open.
