PHOENIX -- A Department of Public Safety motorcycle officer was injured after he was pinned against a barrier wall on Interstate 17 Tuesday afternoon.

According to DPS, a motorcycle officer had stopped a vehicle and was parked on the right shoulder near Indian School Road when traffic slowed in the area.

DPS reports that a Crown Victoria slowed or stopped in the far right lane. A sedan and a pickup truck towing a utility trailer changed into the center lane at the same time and the two vehicles collided.

The trailer struck the Crown Victoria, spinning it into the right shoulder and into the officer's motorcycle. Lt. Steve Harrison said the officer was pinned between his bike and the concrete barrier wall.

Harrison said Officer Randall Wilson was conscious and alert at the scene. He was transported to a local hospital with serious non life-threatening injuries. Wilson sustained a broken leg, broken wrist and an injury to his shoulder.

Wilson has been with DPS for two years and previously was with the Glendale Police Department.

The northbound lanes of I-17 were closed for the investigation, but they reopened at 4 p.m.
