PEORIA -- A family that is apparently losing their home also lost their car Monday morning when they got into a wreck on the northbound Loop 101 near Peoria Avenue.

According to the Department of Public Safety, it's possible that the family had just come from a food bank.

DPS Officer Burnell Trimble said the car was in the far left lane when the driver apparently lost control. The car crossed all of the lanes and hit the wash area that separates the freeway from the Olive on ramp.

The car went airborne, flying over the top of another car that was just getting onto the freeway, Trimble said.

Debris from the car was scattered over quite some distance.

Two people reportedly were taken to the hospital. They were conscious and alert at the time, and are believed to be in stable condition.
