Tempe residents can learn ways to prevent roof rats during a Feb. 8 presentation featuring Barry Paceley, a local expert on the unwanted critters.
The 6 p.m. presentation, to be held at the Pyle Adult Recreation Center, 655 E. Southern Ave., will explain measures for prevention and eradication of the rodents. Bait stations, which have been an effective tool in battling roof rats, will be available for purchase at the presentation for $5 each.
The informative event is part of a larger regional effort to prevent roof rats. The Arcadia neighborhood of Phoenix has long had a program to take residents' quality excess citrus and donate it to food banks, senior centers, local Indian communities and Maricopa County jails. Tempe residents are invited to participate.
The Arcadia Citrus Drop-off Program happens Saturdays through March 27. Residents can drop off all edible fruit from 8 a.m. to noon at the Elks Scottsdale Lodge parking lot, 6398 E. Oak St. Those interested in picking up donated citrus for consumption can do so from 10-11:30 a.m. Volunteers are on hand at the collection events to provide information about roof rat prevention.
For more information on the City of Tempe's Feb. 8 presentation, call Neighborhood Services at 480-350-8234. For details on the Arcadia program, call 602-273-0435.
