PHOENIX -- A fatal early morning wreck on the westbound Interstate 10 closed the off ramp to 35th Avenue for several hours Friday.
It happened at about 3 a.m.
According to Department of Public Safety investigators, a semi was getting off the I-10 at 35th Avenue. That tractor trailer was at the stop light when a passenger car rear-ended it.
While the driver of the semi was not injured, the driver of the passenger car was killed. That victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene, has not been identified.
At this point, investigators are not sure what caused the collision, but they said the impact was major.
"It was enough to where the passenger car went underneath the semi," said DPS Officer Brandon Heinke.
A witness reportedly pulled over and tried to help, but there was nothing that person could do.
DPS was able to re-open the ramp to traffic by 7 a.m.
