Portion of Loop 202 Red Mountain closed for hours after man steps into trafficPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- The westbound lanes of the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway near 52nd Street were shut down for several hours Monday night after a man apparently stepped into traffic.
According to investigators, two people in a truck stopped along the side of the road after running out of gas.
The driver was seen walking along the freeway. That's when a woman in another car hit him. She reportedly told Department of Public Safety investigators that she never even saw the man.
All of the westbound lanes were shut down while emergency crews treated the man.
While the backup was significant, the freeway has since re-opened to traffic.
The victim's condition is not known.
