PHOENIX – The search is on for a man who tried to run down a sheriff's deputy in a truck.

It happened near 35th Avenue and Roosevelt and locked part of that neighborhood down for a while on Monday night.

The deputy is okay but the search for the suspect continues. The incident involved an off-duty deputy who saw the suspect hit something in a truck. When the deputy tried getting the suspect to stop his truck from fleeing the scene the suspect tried to run him over.

The suspect ended up crashing his truck again nearby and fled on foot before disappearing into the neighborhood.

For an hour or so a police helicopter circled above as officers using a loudspeaker tried to convince the suspect to give himself up, telling him to surrender or they would send a K9 unit to find him.

3TV only has a vague suspect description: A Hispanic man in his 30s wearing a white t-shirt, according to the many witnesses who saw the whole thing happen.

Chopper video shows teams of officers swarming through the alleys in that neighborhood near 32nd Avenue and McKinley searching for this suspect but he remains on the run.

MCSO says the truck the suspect was driving was stolen.
