Suicidal man shot by police after posing threat to officers identified

SCOTTSDALE – Scottsdale police say they shot and severely wounded a suicidal man who pointed a handgun at officers on Friday afternoon.

Sgt. Mark Clark says Bruce Budge's roommate called police and told them the man had severely cut himself with a razor blade. When officers arrived at the home near Hayden and Indian Bend roads, they quickly approached the home to try to help the man.

Clark says that's when they encountered the man at the garage door and he pointed a handgun at the officers. They opened fire and the man was struck an undetermined numbers of times.

Clark says the man was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.

Budge was a local musician who working with Horizon High School as well as started a record label.

The officer involved in the shooting is on administrative leave while the investigation into the incident continues.
