PRESCOTT – An 18-year-old man is in trouble with the law after trying to escape from officers while riding a dirt bike-style motorcycle.

A Prescott Valley police officer with a K9 tried to conduct a traffic stop on Adam Peakman, of Dewey, for several traffic violations in the area of Florentine and Lake Valley.

Police say that Peakman fled from the officer once he saw the emergency lights activated. The suspect reportedly turned to look at the officer as he tried to escape and rode a “wheelie” down Main Street from Florentine.

Peakman fled into the parking lot of an Albertson’s during the chase where there were two pedestrians. The officer did not follow Peakman into the parking lot.

A resident told police the suspect was driving recklessly and saw him enter the Liberty Traditional School property. A K9 officer located Peakman who was hiding behind a chain link fence. He allegedly told officers he knew the officer was attempting to stop him but he thought he could get away.

Peakman faces charges including unlawful flight from law enforcement and two counts of endangerment and reckless driving. He is in the Yavapai County Jail in Camp Verde.
