COTTONWOOD -- An unlicensed teen driver crashed her car into a garage in Cottonwood Sunday afternoon.

According to the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office, Alexa Keene, 19, had driven to a home to visit friends.

Keene told deputies that she drove into the driveway and when she tried to stop, she mistakenly pressed on the gas pedal instead of the brake.

Sheriff's spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said Keene's Dodge Intrepid continued forward, crashed through a metal garage door and struck the rear adjoining bathroom wall of the home.

The back wall of the garage was pushed into the bathroom and a washer and dryer in the garage were also damaged.

No one was injured in the crash.

Deputies said there were no signs of intoxication.

Keene was not a licensed driver. She was issued a citation for several violations, including driving without a driver’s license, failure to provide insurance and failure to control a vehicle. The car was impounded for 30 days.
