Police ID suspects shot by officers near I-17Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX - The Phoenix Police Department with the assistance of the Department of Public Safety and the Arizona Department of Transportation continue to investigate an officer involved shooting near the I-17 and Bethany Home Road.
Two men accused of riding around in a stolen car were wounded Monday by Phoenix police officers who fired at them after the stolen car's driver rammed other vehicles at a busy intersection and posed a threat to officers.
Detective James Holmes says the car was discovered stolen by an officer who eventually lost sight of it.
The car was spotted again at Interstate 17 and Bethany Home.
Holmes says investigators believe the driver rammed other vehicles because police were after him and there was no way to get past the busy intersection.
Holmes says officers shot the driver and a passenger after the driver headed toward officers with the car.
The two suspects have been identified as Andrew Black, 26, and Raymundo Barriga, 19. Both were treated for injuries that weren't life-threatening.
Police say they found a shotgun inside the car that they believe was used in a robbery earlier Monday morning.
