Immigration activist texts warnings about sheriff's sweeps

PHOENIX -- An immigration activist is sending out text alerts to warn residents about Sheriff Joe Apraio's controversial crime suppression sweeps.

Lydia Guzman, head of the nonprofit group Respect-Repeto, has protested Arpaio's sweeps before. She's also the main person behind a texting tree meant to give people details about the sweeps within minutes.

Guzman says it's a well-orchestrated effort to protect Latinos and others from becoming victims of racial profiling. She says the messages are protected by free speech.

Arpaio says Guzman is trying to help illegal immigrants avoid detection.
