Hiker injured in fall near Hole in the Rock at Papago Park

PHOENIX -- A man was injured when he slipped and fell while hiking near Hole in the Rock at Papago Park Saturday afternoon.

The man, who is in his 20s, was with his brother and sister at the time. They apparently lost track of him. When they started looking around, they discovered he had tumbled into a crevice.

It took 20 firefighters to get the man out of the crevice and down the mountain.

According to rescuers from the Phoenix Fire Department, the man broke his leg. He also suffered a severe gash on his head.

The man was taken by ground ambulance to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Hospital. His condition was not immediately available.

The Hole in the Rock hiking area was temporarily closed down while Phoenix police investigated the accident.
