PHOENIX – Two members of a family are dead and two others are critically injured after a car wreck in Phoenix.

It happened just before 11 a.m. on New Year’s Day in the area of 51st Avenue and Greenway.

3TV has learned a father, identified as Enrique Rodriguez Alvarez, and his 14-year-old daughter, Virginia Alvarez, died as a result of the collision.

The 34-year-old mother, Ruth Alvarez, and the father's brother, "Junior" Rodriguez Alvarez, remain in critical condition at an undisclosed medical center. Nobody in the van was restrained and the driver was reportedly speeding.

The family was traveling northbound in a mini-van when the driver ran a red light, according to witnesses. The minivan struck another passenger car.

The 80-year-old male driver and an 82-year-old woman in the passenger car were taken to the hospital but did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

The family of the deceased has planned car washes to raise funds for funeral costs and other expenses. The car washes are planned for Saturday, Jan. 9 at the following two locations starting at 10 a.m.

-Central and Baseline at Church's Chicken

-25th Avenue and Van Buren at an auto repair shop
