During the fall their have been some great individual performances, continued winning streaks and some surprise finishes. Taking a look back at some of the winners from badminton, cross country, golf, soccer, swimming and volleyball.
In badminton 5A singles Desert Mountain's Emily Harris took home her second straight state championship. Emily didn't drop a game all year finishing 31-0 en route to defending her title. Emily's record over the past two season's is 65-0. She isn't done yet as she has her sights set on the state tennis title.
Mountain Pointe took the 5-A doubles title. Xavier won the 5A team championships and Sunnyslope was crowned 4-A champ.
In cross country, Wendy's Heisman finalist Jessica Tonn won the 5A-I division. The Xavier senior finished the year winning six of seven meets. Jessica plans to run at the next level at either Duke, Oregon or Stanford.
On the boys side in 5A-I Jorge Martinez from Alhambra took home the title. Sinagua senior Brian Shrader finished his career as a three-time 4A-I champ and currently he's ranked number one in the nation.
On the links Xavier's Kaira Martin took the top 5A-I spot along with helping her team to the title.
In 5A-II Chaparral's Jaquie Lemarr took top honors. On the boy's side CJ Kim won his second consecutive title along with helping Hamilton continue their 5A-I dominance. In 5A-II Horizon's Blake Cannon finished on top.
Up in the high country Blue Ridge dominated boys and girls 1A to 3A soccer. For the girls this marks their third title in a row.
In the pool Brophy continued their dominance. Led by senior John Wojchiechowski the Broncos secured their 22 consecutive 5A-I championship. In his high school career John has been state champ twelve times. He plans to swim at Michigan next year. In girls 5A-I swimming Xavier captured its 11th title. Desert Vista was second and Mountain View third.
In girls volleyball Seton Catholic won 4A-II, Sunnyslope repeat as 4A-I champ, Horizon upset Desert Mountain to win the 5A-II division and Xavier made it three in a row defeating underdog Corona del Sol in 5A-I finals.
