Officer Chris Marano's family shares memories

Surprise, Ariz. -- With only 13 days to go in 2009, Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) Officer Chris Marano was the first DPS officer to die in the line of duty this year.

By all accounts, Marano was a man devoted to serving others who put his family above all else.  Prior to joining DPS, Marano served in the United States Navy and was a Gulf war veteran.  He leaves behind his wife Shelly and four daughters, a seven-year-old, five-year-old twins, and a four-month-old baby.

Officer Marano's mother, Katherine, arrived in Phoenix today from her home in Minnesota.  She took a few minutes to share some memories of her son with 3TVs Stacey Delikat today, saying "[Chris] was an incredible guy...he was tough on the outside and a sweetie on the inside. He was there for his family and he was very protective of his daughters."

Fund Raiser Car Wash for Officer Marano family on Tuesday, January 5, 2010, from 9:00 a.m. through 1:00 p.m. at Danny's Family Car Wash located at 315 W. Bell Road in Phoenix to help the family of the fallen Department of Public Safety Officer, Christopher Marano. 100% of the proceeds will go to the family.
