UPDATE: The deceased pickup truck driver has been identified as 53-year-old Jeffrey Rowan of Surprise.

 

PEORIA -- The Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision that occurred Wednesday morning at Loop 303 and Olive Avenue.

According to DPS, a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer hauling gravel collided at approximately 8:30 a.m.

DPS spokesman Harold Sanders said preliminary information indicates the pickup truck entered into the intersection against the red light and collided with the gravel truck, which entered on the green light.

Both vehicles overturned and the gravel truck lost its load, which spilled onto the roadway.

The driver of the pickup was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is unknown if the gravel truck driver was injured.

The intersection was closed until approximately 12:20 p.m.
