Joyce Hubbard, Public Health Nurse Consultant, says Violence in the home is deeply rooted in a family’s culture and it takes a real effort for a woman to free herself and her children from the cycle. She says eighty-five percent of domestic violence victims are women. She says battered immigrant women are threatened with deportation by their spouses or boyfriends if they seek help. She says victims should get out of the house if possible and call 911 for help.
