PHOENIX (AP) — Firefighters say a blaze that broke out at the landmark Durant's steakhouse in central Phoenix on Tuesday was quickly controlled.

Phoenix Fire Department Captain P.J. Dean says smoke and flames were pouring from the roof when fire crews arrived at midmorning. But they quickly found the blaze was confined only to the kitchen ventilation system and were able to control it before flames spread to the building itself.

Dean says damage was only minor and the restaurant will probably be closed for only a day as water used in firefighting efforts is mopped up and the built-in kitchen fire extinguishers are recharged.

The decades-old Central Avenue steakhouse is a well-known hangout for movers and shakers in Phoenix.
