Man charged with murder after bringing girlfriend's body to Mesa ER

MESA -- A man who brought his girlfriend's body to a Mesa emergency room over the weekend has been arrested in connection with her death.

Police say the man, 21-year-old Dartanion Stroud, called a relative in Florida and told them he had killed his girlfriend. That relative then called a family in Gilbert who in turn called Gilbert police about 7:30 a.m. Sunday.

Shortly after that, Stroud showed up at Banner Desert Medical Center with the body of his girlfriend, 26-year-old Angelita Montano.

She was not breathing and did not have a pulse, according to police, and had some marks on her neck that appeared to be consistent with strangulation.

The two had been dating for a couple years and have a 9-month-old baby. Police say there is a history of domestic abuse and that Angelita had an order of protection against Dartanion. Despite the order of protection, the two had reportedly been seeing each other.

Police believe Stroud strangled his girlfriend; they are just trying to figure out when, where and why. Police say the information he is providing is not making any sense.

Stroud is charged with second degree murder and interfering with a judicial proceeding. He is being held on $500,000 bond.
