Tempe shooting suspect arrested at bar few hours after crime

TEMPE - Tempe police arrest suspect in shooting at Days Inn on Apache Boulevard.

Around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Tempe officers responded to a call of shots fired at the motel and found Karl Jones, 40, with a gunshot wound to the lower left torso.

Paul Rivas was the suspect who fired three rounds into the motel room where Jones and Aereal Haugen, 31, were.

Haugen was not injured in the shooting

Jones was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Rivas fled the shooting scene but was apprehended five hours later at a bar in Mesa.

Rivas is charged with two counts of aggravated assault.
