Southern Arizona schools in State Championships

When it was announced that Arizona Stadium would be the site for the 4A Division I and Division II football state championships, it was only fitting that a team from Southern Arizona find a way to be in the title game.

After showing why they are the #1 seed in 4A Division I, the Canyon del Oro Dorados will be one of two Tucson-area teams playing for the State Championship next Saturday.  The 11-2 Sabino Sabercats will be on the other sideline.  It's the second time in five years the teams will meet twice in the same season.

In Jeff Scurran's first season at Santa Rita 2 years ago the Eagles were knocked out of the semi-finals by then #1 seeded Cotton-Mingus.  They were 5-points short last year falling to Notre Dame prep in the State Championship.  During this year's post-season Scurran and the eagles returned the favor to both teams.  Shutting out Notre Dame in round one and beating top-seeded Mingus 24-14 Friday night for their second straight State Championship appearance.
