N. Phoenix residents want new traffic study before Mormon temple votePosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Too many cars, too little road, that's what residents in a North Phoenix neighborhood say about a proposal to build a Mormon temple on their block.
Residents in Deer Valley picketed at the site near Pinnacle Peak Road and 51st Avenue Sunday.
The LDS Church has asked permission to build a three-story, 25,000-square-foot temple on the lot.
The Deer Valley Planning Commission approved the plan last week, but some neighbors say that decision was based on a faulty traffic study.
"We want the city to require that a complete traffic study be done before this is voted on by the City Council," Scott Anderson said.
The City Council will cast a final vote on the plan at its meeting on Dec. 2.
