Arizona commission to consider ouster of legislator
By Catherine Holland
PHOENIX -- Arizona's public campaign financing commission on Thursday will consider anew whether a legislator should be removed from office and fined.
The Citizens Clean Elections Commission ruled in May that Republican Rep. Doug Quelland of Phoenix violated campaign finance rules and laws by padding his publicly funded campaign with private money. Quelland denies doing that.
Quelland appealed, but an administrative law judge upheld the recommendation that he be removed from office last week. The judge did reduce his fine from $45,500 to $31,000.
The commission can stick by its original decision or revise it.
Quelland's attorney says his client will challenge the commission's decision if it rules against Quelland again.
