3 Behind bars for allegedly trying to sell grenadesPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Nearly two dozen live grenades were recovered by Department of Public Safety officers during a two-day sting operation.
Three men are in custody in connection with the bust. A fourth suspect is still outstanding.
Authorities received a tip that someone was selling grenades out of a Maryvale home for $400 each.
Investigators aren't sure where the men got the grenades, but they were able to recover 23 of what they say are military-grade shells.
Investigators say there were two different styles of grenade. One was called a pineapple grenade and the other was a round grenade.
Officers say they could have been deadly if they had gotten into the wrong hands.
Investigators are still trying to determine if the men were working independently or part of a larger operation.
