Sexual predator targeting area girls by mailPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Police say a serial predator has been targeting girls across the Valley for 10 years, sending them sexually explicit letters.
He's never touched the young victims; he just reaches them through the mail. So they have no description of him. But he's sent out letters to children all across the country, most of them right here in the Valley.
He spots them on news reports -- their names and addresses taken from television news stories and newspapers, often when kids have been recognized or awarded.
Then investigators say the unknown pedophile writes the young girls sexually explicit and graphic letters describing how he wants to have sex with them.
Over the last 10 years he's written more than 80 of these letters; 41 sent to children right here in the Valley.
His preferred victims are 8- and 9-year-old girls. The first victim was a 12-year-old girl in Tucson in 1999; the most recent was a young girl in Scottsdale in July.
His victims so far:
Investigators say he uses the term "Lovebud" in his writings. But they have no idea who he is. Police say they've collected DNA from the letters but have had no matches to anyone in the criminal system.
