TUCSON -- Two off-duty Phoenix police officers were injured while riding a motorcycle on Interstate 10 east of Tucson Friday afternoon.

According to the Department of Public Safety, a group of 15 to 20 motorcyclists was riding near Tucson when a mattress fell off a pickup truck and hit a motorcycle driven by a male off-duty Phoenix police officer.

The officer has not been identified.

DPS spokesman Bart Graves said the driver and a female passenger, who is also a Phoenix police officer, were injured and airlifted to the University of Arizona Medical Center in Tucson.

Their injuries are serious but not considered life-threatening.

Graves said the motorcyclists were all off-duty officers riding their personal motorcycles.
