Ignoring a photo-enforcement ticket could cost youPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Ignoring a photo-enforcement ticket could soon cost you more money.
On Wednesday, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors approved adding a $20 fee to the tickets on top of the actual fine.
According to county officials, that $20 add-on for people who don't pay the tickets, which are sent out by the Department of Public Safety, would help cover the costs for handling photo-enforcement cases.
The fee would only affect those drivers who ignore the tickets and wind up in court, and the money would be used only for the justice courts. Photo-enforcement cases, which have flooded the court system since November 2008, account for about half of the court filings.
The fee will go into effect in December.
