PHOENIX -- According to a report in this morning's East Valley Tribune, Arizona's real jobless rate is 17%. Although the official unemployment rate, published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, is 9.5%, the Tribune article takes a look at other factors.
These factors include 10% for 'Discouraged Workers' which are people who want a job but are no longer actively looking for employment. Also included is 10.7% for 'Marginally Attached Workers' which includes people who occasionally look for work, and finally 17.2% for 'Underemployed Workers' who want to work full-time, but have settled for part-time positions.
