WICKENBURG -- An F-16D Fighting Falcon lost power and was forced to make an emergency landing at the Wickenburg Municipal Airport Thursday morning.

It happened at about 10:30 a.m.

According to Justin Oakes, a spokesman for Luke Air Force Base, the crew did not have to eject. While the plane came in short of the runway, neither of the two pilots was hurt in the hard landing. They were, however, taken to the hospital as precaution.

The jet is assigned to the 56th Fighter Wing based at Luke AFB, the biggest F-16 training base in the world.

Air Force officials will investigate the incident to determine what caused the plane's  engine to fail.

Crews were on the scene to make sure the plane was sure and that nothing hazardous was leaking.

Wickenburg is about 40 miles northwest of Phoenix.
