SUV driver arrested after hitting grandmother, toddler in Gilbert

GILBERT -- A 52-year-old woman and her 3-year-old granddaughter were hit by an SUV while walking near Williams Field and Lindsay roads in Gilbert Tuesday morning.

According to Gilbert police, Jeanne Marie Kafoury Hobbs, 46, was traveling at a high rate of speed and lost control. The vehicle hit a light pole, three trees and the pedestrians.

At some point, the front wheel of the vehicle flew off.

The child, Aubry Ensaw, temporarily lost consciousness and was airlifted to a regional trauma center. Her grandmother, Urszula Morun, was also taken to a trauma center. Her injuries are not considered to be life threatening, however, she is in critical condition.

Poice say Hobbs had non-prescription drugs in her system at the time of the accident.

Hobbs was arrested for two counts of aggravated assault and reckless driving.
