Shooting near Freeport's Indonesian gold minePosted: Updated:
JAKARTA, INDONESIA -- Police say two employees of Phoenix-based Freeport have been wounded in the Eastern Indonesian province of Papua. The shooting occurred on-board a bus carrying workers to the world's largest gold mine. The bus was traveling between the town of Timika and Freeport's Grasberg mining site.
The injured workers are being treated in a nearby clinic and are reported to be in stable condition.
The region has seen similar incidents in the recent past, including an ambush earlier this month which caused the death of a Freeport security guard and a local policeman.
