Chandler couple arrested after child-abuse investigation

CHANDLER -- Chandler police arrested a woman and her live-in boyfriend after a child-abuse investigation.

On Oct. 6, doctors at Desert Banner Hospital found that a 2-year-old boy had a spiral fracture to his left femur and a possible fracture to a vertebrae.

According to Detective David Ramer, the mother and her boyfriend could not explain the child's injuries so police were called to investigate.

During a search of the couple's apartment, detectives found adult pornography, marijuana and methamphetamines in areas the boy could easily access.

On Thursday, Amanda L. Corwin, 22, and Matthew J. Lallemand, 32, were arrested for child abuse for recklessly storing methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

In addition, Ramer said the couple are being charged with furnishing harmful material to a minor, possession of marijuana, possession of dangerous drugs. possession of drug paraphernalia and child neglect.

Both have been booked into the Maricopa County Jail.

The boy was released from the hospital. He and his 1-year old sister have been placed in protective custody.

The investigation of the boy's injuries is still ongoing.
