Arizona guardsman killed in AfghanistanPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- The Arizona Army National Guard says a 39-year-old guardsman who was also a member of the Phoenix police force has died of wounds sustained during combat operations in Afghanistan.
Guard officials say Staff Sgt. Thomas Rabjohn of Litchfield Park died Saturday. The incident is under investigation.
Rabjohn was assigned to the Guard's Coolidge-based 363RD Ordnance Company, which deployed to Afghanistan in April. The
company's mission was to eliminate explosive hazards and provide ordnance disposal support.
The adjutant general of the Arizona National Guard, Maj. Gen. Hugo E. Salazar, says Rabjohn was among the best of the Guard's non-commissioned officer corps and that he was dedicated to service in both the Guard and the Phoenix Police Department.
