Police: Race may have been factor in woman's fatal shootingPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX - Police think race may have been a factor in a shooting that left a woman dead.
On Saturday at about 1:30 a.m. officers say a couple was walking in a park near Dunlap Avenue and 7th Street when a man came up and made a comment.
The couple walked away but police say the suspect got into the passenger's seat of a car and fired two shotgun blasts when driving by the victims.
One of the rounds hit the 39-year-old woman walking with the man. She has been identified as Kelley Jaeger.
Detective James Holms, with Phoenix police, says, "I'm not gonna come right out and say it's a hate crime. There were no racial slurs or anything like that but it does lead us in that direction just because of the fact that the suspect made a comment to the race of both of the victims."
The gunman is still on the loose. He is described as bald with a lot of tattoos.
